For those of you who follow social media, especially celebrity and animal news, you have most likely heard of the #BettyWhiteChallenge. Or The Betty White Challenge for those who don’t speak hashtag.
So what is the #BettyWhiteChallenge?
On January 17th, 2022 (that’s tomorrow, folks) on what would have been Betty White’s 100th Birthday, a request to donate $5 to local animal shelter or rescue organization has somehow grown into a public rallying cry. At least via Twitter
We don’t know who started this and it’s not like it’s ‘official’ but given Betty White‘s strong advocacy and love for animals, the charitable request makes sense and is something I’m sure of which she’d have approved. The hashtag #BettyWhiteChallenge quickly took off and drew support from celebrities like actors Mark Hamill and George Takei on Twitter.
Some official organizations have indeed jumped on the Betty White Challenge bandwagon. The American Humane and the SPCLA is requesting donations on Betty’s behalf – and not just for her would-be birthday.

The spcaLA is also honoring the challenge.
